Proverbs 31 Artwork: The Virtuous Woman – The Woman Who Fears the Lord

Initially this Proverbs 31 artwork begins with Ancient King Lemuel’s mom giving him 4 pieces of universal advice that might as well have been written yesterday:

Introduction:
1 The words of King Lemuel. An oracle that his mother taught him:

First the Kings mom starts by three times asking a question ever son has heard: “What are you doing?“

2 What are you doing, my son? What are you doing, son of my womb?
What are you doing, son of my vows?

#1 Then she says ‘Don’t use your power to chase women or embrace corruption’

3 Do not give your strength to women,
your ways to those who destroy kings.

#2 Additionally, don’t get drunk

4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
it is not for kings to drink wine,
or for rulers to take strong drink,
5 lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and pervert the rights of all the afflicted.
6 Give strong drink to the one who is perishing,
and wine to those in bitter distress;
7 let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.

#3 Also speak for those who don’t have a voice

8 Open your mouth for the mute,
for the rights of all who are destitute.

#4 Finally, judge righteously and defend the rights of the poor and needy

9 Open your mouth, judge righteously,
defend the rights of the poor and needy.

So in conclusion, any good leader should take some advice from King Lemuel’s mother!

The chapter then proceeds with a beautiful description of the woman who fears the Lord. Furthermore, you may read the full text depicted in this Proverbs 31 scripture layout in both English and Hebrew on Sefaria.org. You can also read it in the ESV at Biblia.com.
